“East Cape Chemotype” Manuka oil is sourced from mature, wild growing Manuka (Leptospermum scoparium) from the rugged East Coast of New Zealand’s North Island. The oil is extracted on a large scale utilising the highest quality production protocols. This ensures our Manuka oil is blended to the highest quality with precision batch to batch consistency. Oil is extracted from the Manuka leaf where the leaf glands store the oil. Nelson Honey East Cape Manuka oil has low levels of Pinenes and Myrcene but high levels of Flavesone, Isoleptospermone and Leptospermone. This combination gives a superior level of antimicrobial activity, particularly against ‘gram positive’ bacteria such as staphylococcus and streptococcus.
