Robyn’s Top Tips for Ceating Your Own Natural Medicine Chest

The Earth is a living library of healing cures. And when used correctly these cures heal without side effects or added toxic overload. Open your medicine cabinet and take a look inside. How many pills, tablets, and bottles of syrups do you have that contain chemicals you can’t even pronounce? I have discovered the right natural remedies are more powerful in helping my family stay strong.

We’ve been very fortunate that my almost 6-year-old son has never had to take a course of antibiotics. While I do believe that western medicine has its place, and I will be very grateful for the day we need them and have access to them, it concerns me deeply to see how misused and misunderstood this practice can be within the home. I see kids jump from one course of antibiotics to the next, while their immune systems struggle to recover in-between and I feel for them and their parents, who I know are just doing the best they know how with the information they’ve been given.

But there is another way. There are cures that have been working for centuries. Cures that heal without compromising the body’s immune system. Cures that give the body what it needs to heal itself, without simply putting a plaster on the symptoms. These are my favourite products, always on hand in our natural medicine cabinet.

FOR INTERNAL USE

1. Tissue Salts

Tissue salts, also called biochemical salts or cell salts, are a group of health-giving minerals found naturally in your body. Tissue salts provide the body’s cells with essential inorganic nutrients, helping to correct cellular imbalances and boost the body’s natural self-healing and cleansing abilities. However, modern living tends to deplete your body’s salt reserves, and this tissue salt imbalance leaves you vulnerable to numerous ailments. My experience (albeit limited to my family) has been that tissue salts are especially effective with children. I discovered in my son’s first year that often the common cold symptoms he displayed were actually just side effects of teething rather than infection, and with the help of Margaret Robert’s tissue salts for kids, and with the guidance of an amazing homeopath**, we were able to restore balance when he seemed ill within 24 hours, simply by by using the right tissue salt.

The biometric tissue salt blends from AllisOne are ground by hand and carefully formulated to retain 100% of their mineral value. All tissue salts are sugar-free, lactose-free and vegan-friendly, prepared using time-honoured, traditional biochemical methods.

** I often hear people say that one of the drawbacks of homeopathic medicine is that it takes much longer to work. Please do clarify this with your practitioner as in reality if you have found the correct ailment you should see a noticeable improvement, within 24 hours.

2. Quality Herbs

The pure herbal range has been an absolute life saver in our home treating everything from pink eye to snotty noses, upset tummies, and mild fevers.  I honestly cannot recommend it enough.

3. Activated Charcoal

Hopefully, this won’t need to be used often, but it is an essential for incidents of poisoning especially. Activated charcoal has also been used for thousands of years as a remedy for stomach aches, skin infections, teeth whitening and much more.

FOR EXTERNAL USE

4. Simply Bee Antiseptic Balm

It was actually my mom that got my entire family hooked on Simply Bee Antiseptic Balm. All four cousins in our family know this as “nanna’s magic cure” and magic it is. The variety of strongly positive reviews do this product more justice than my praise ever could so go take a read, but honestly from insect bites, scrapes, cuts, cold sores, any sores really, this balm will have you covered. In fact, you may decide to invest in one for your home and one for your bag or car (I have!)   ** Calendula ointment is also great to have on hand for any rashes, skin irritations, cuts or scrapes.

5. Arnica

I keep both the arnica ointment and the arnica tablets in our natural medicine chest. Although my sporty husband benefits from this most, Arnica is a very powerful cure for any kind of bruising or swelling. It’s inherent anti-swelling and anti-inflammatory properties reduce these symptoms by aiding the absorption of blood from muscle and affected tissue.

6. Earthways Drawing Salve

This has been a stellar find, especially for my little Spiderman who is constantly bringing splinters into the home. Earthway Infusions Drawing Salve is a powerful botanical salve for drawing out splinters, treating boils, stings and insect bites. HOW IT EXTRACTS:
It uses the powerful cleansing properties of activated charcoal and bentonite clay that work together to draw out impurities and toxins from bites and splinters.
HOW IT HEALS:
It infuses plantain to relieve the pain of stings and bites, stop itching and promote healing; lavender as an antiseptic and calendula to soothe irritations.

7. Aloe Gel

Containing 83% pure organic aloe ferox, this is one of the only aloe gels on the market that are carried in a pure enough base to pass our strict ingredient policy. I have it on hand predominantly for sunburn, but like most good topical healers, it is good for almost all ailments. Aloe is naturally moisturising, soothing, antibacterial and antifungal and has proven to regenerate damaged cells 8 times faster than normal!

8. Rescue Remedy

This is always a good fail safe to have on hand for those unexpected stressful events. My furry canine children seem to need rescue remedy most though.

9. Down To Earth African Potato Cream

This is a lifesaver in our house due to the restless leg syndrome my son often gets at night. We discovered African Potato Cream’s amazing ability to soothe restless legs by chance but I see by the reviews that quite a few other customers are using it for the same reason. The African potato is the star ingredient here, with high sterol and sterolin levels working to ease inflammation, accelerate healing and even to boost immunity.

10. Tea Tree Oil

The therapeutic actions of tea tree have been well documented and this oil is a must for your first aid kit. Tea tree oil has impressive antiseptic and antiviral properties making it the classic natural alternative for “Detol.”

11. Oregno Oil

We keep oregano oil on hand for treating coughs and tight chests but it’s great for an amazing array of skin conditions too, especially pesky fungal conditions. Just dilute a drop or two in a carrier oil for a healing massage, or add to your aromatherapy diffuser or bath to relieve congestion and coughs.

I hope the contents and stories within my natural medicine cabinet inspire you and your family to live a truly healthful life, free from a dependence on antibiotics and other harsh over the counter medicines.
