Face Masks To Whip Up in Your Kitchen

Combination Skin

Rose Mask

This mask, based on roses, is perfect for balancing out the oily and dry areas of your skin.


  • Optional: 6 fresh rose petals
  • 2 tbsps rosewater
  • 1 tbsp natural yogurt, room temperature (not low fat or non-fat)
  • 1 tbsp runny honey (to get honey runny, you can warm it in a microwave for a few seconds)


  • Soak rose petals, then crush them in a bowl.
  • Add the rosewater, yogurt and honey.
  • Mix well and apply to the skin.
  • Leave on for 10 minutes.
  • Rinse.

Sensitive Skin

Yogurt and Oatmeal Mask

This mask is great for soothing chapped, sunburned or otherwise irritated skin.
Extra tip: This mask works well for other skin types as well. For oily skin, add a couple drops of lemon or lime juice. For dry skin, mix in a couple tablespoons of honey.


  • 1 cup natural yogurt (we like it just-out-of-the-fridge cold)
  • ½ cup oatmeal (any type of basic oatmeal works here)


  • Mix the ingredients together.
  • Apply to the skin for 10-15 minutes.
  • Wash off mask with a washcloth steamed in the microwave (careful that it’s not too hot)

Dry Skin

Avocado and Honey Mask

Avocados and honey are particularly moisturising.


  • ½ avocado
  • ¼ cup honey


  • A classic recipe for dry skin. Mash the avocado in a bowl, then stir in honey.
  • Apply to skin and leave for 10 minutes.
  • Rinse face with a cool washcloth.

Honey and Oatmeal Face Mask


  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • Instant oatmeal enough to make a paste


  • Mix all the above ingredients together with enough of the instant oatmeal to make a good paste consistency.
  • Smooth this blend all over your face and neck.
  • Leave on the face for 10-15 minutes and then rinse off with lukewarm water.
  • Pat dry with a soft towel.

Oily Skin

Strawberry and Lemon Mask

Strawberry and lemon juice contain natural astringents. This recipe works for two people, so invite a friend, or cut the recipe in half for just you.


  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 2 egg whites
  • 3 tsp honey
  • 1 cup strawberries


  • Mash or blend the above ingredients.
  • Smooth over face.
  • Let it stay for 10 minutes.
  • Apply to face for 15 minutes before rinsing with a cool washcloth or a steaming warm washcloth. Rinse.

Cucumber and Yogurt Mask

Not only is cucumber soothing to your skin, it is purported to reduce wrinkles.


  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 tablespoon plain yogurt


  • Clean and peel one cucumber.
  • Mash or blend both ingredients.
  • Blend the mixture until smooth.
  • Apply the cucumber yogurt mask to your entire face, avoiding the eye area.
  • Leave on for ten to fifteen minutes, then remove mask with lukewarm water.

Apple and Honey Facial Mask

Honey is a natural astringent that will also help to tighten your oily skin.


  • 1 apple
  • 3 tablespoons organic honey


  • Add one apple (peeled, seeded, and cut into slices) into a blender or food processor.
  • Add three tablespoons of honey.
  • Blend the mixture well.
  • Apply to face and leave on for ten to fifteen minutes.
  • Rinse with warm water.
