Sodium Benzoate is listed as a nasty in our pocket guide when used for food. But why then do we allow it in our cosmetics? The amount of sodium benzoate used in cosmetics is much smaller than in food as a preservative. Furthermore, the molecules are too large to be absorbed by the skin. This preservative has been allowed by Ecocert; the Soil Association and BDIH. It has been ranked by the EWG as having a low risk of 1. BUT there are reports circulating on the internet that warn against usage of the preservative even in cosmetics. We believe it is still one of the safer preservatives, but as always, we wanted you to be in the loop. The choice is yours to make.

In the bottle it smells overpowering, however, after rinsing it out, your hair is left with a faint scent.
It really does not foam up like other shampoos (but I think this is due to it not having all the foaming agents). I definitely think this shampoo is gentle on both my scalp and hair.
I found it is best to wet my hair, gently squeeze out excess water and work a small amount onto my scalp, I then rinse and repeat.
I definitely see myself buying this product again when my current bottle starts getting low. With commercial shampoos I can wash my hair once every three days. With this I have to wash every second day. It smells clean and I found it easier to work into my hair than some of the other natural shampoos.
For my oily hair, this shampoo is second only to the Hey Gorgeous Aloe and Olive shampoo. Due to the price, that's a rare treat. I have had dry scalp for years and have spent a lot on salon shampoo (R230 per bottle) which helps but does not work as well as Treemendous. My hair is sooooo soft (and I usually have very course & frizzy hair) and smooth and shiny, with no itch at all for days. I’ll come and buy a carton of it when I’m in Cape Town in June.
