Inside the purifier is a purifying candle of advanced design. It has a micro-porous ceramic outer wall lined with colloidal silver and holds an inner core of Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) made from coconut shells. The filter candle is effective for approximately 1500 litres of municipal water. This will obviously vary depending on the quality of the water. It is advisable to change the filter candle every 6 months
The water passes through this filter to be made pure and safe in three ways:- The outer micro-porous ceramic pre-filter removes up to 99.9% of bacteria and 99% of suspended solids, by screening down to one micron.
- The water then passes through the inner core of Activated Charcoal, which removes ad taste and odours, This core is protected by a bactericidal agent to maintain the purity of the water.
- A small (and necessary) amount of dissolved minerals and active biocides are left in the water to prevent any possibility of re-contamination.
The purifier water may have a slight clay taste for up to 21 days. This is not harmful and occurs simply because the terracotta is very dry and unglazed. Emptying the purifier and completely refilling it each day during this initial period will ensure this taste disappears.
The 4 and 6 litre filters are fitted with 1 filter (known as a candle).
Recommended use:- 4 Litre - Small Home or Bar
- 6 Litre - Medium Home

24/08/2024, By MaryTerrible decision to buy this filter. Four liters take about twelve hours to get filtered. When the bottom chamber is full it takes about 1 minute to get 1 liter out of the tap. The emptier it gets the longer it takes. The last 1,5 liters one can only pour out. No chance getting a drip out of the tap. Because the top chamber is just lying on the bottom chamber one can’t even tipple the filter to encourage water flow. So for the last 1,5 liters one must take top chamber off, therefore it has to be empty then one can pour out the remaining filtered water out of bottom chamber. But it’s basically impossible pouring it neatly into a container. A total waste of money. Really super upset.10/08/2024, By Paols109The Stefani filter has been so good to me for several years I recently bought another one for my son when he moved out of home. The water tastes great, it the perfect temperature, and all the parts are ordered separately as they perish. Best water filter!16/02/2024, By MichaelWe love this. So much better than tap or bottled water and it pays for itself in a few months.
No throwing away plastic bottles all the time and no micro-plastics or chemicals.
The water tastes great - we do just add back salt or electrolytes.
It filters slowly but we keep it topped up and the 4 litre serves a thirsty family of 3 well.26/12/2023, By KhweziMy husband got me this as a birthday present in July. Yes it filters slow but that is necessary to give the water enough contact time with the silver to kill bacteria and also with the activated charcoal to remove taste and odour. All it needs is just planning accordingly. We just make sure that we pour water the night before with bigger families adjustment iwill be necessary.
I studied chemistry the science sounds realistic too.
My husband and I struggle to drink tap water at work if we forget to bring filtered water. The chlorine is overpowering once you are sensitised to it after not tasting it.31/10/2023, By LorraineUltra slow in filtering water, of you have a strong sense of taste, then do have an alternative ready when you first purchase the item as it has a really strong clay taste that takes a while to get rid off.
Also make sure you have a safe place to access it so you don't need to top it forward to get to your filtered water.
Taste is amazing though.05/08/2023, By KrinessaVery difficult to return once used and if you find an issue, so make sure you know all pros and cons before buying. Mine leaked and filtered very slowly. Also poor design. Too much water left at the bottom which you have to pour out, and tap too close to the counter. You can only fit a small glass underneath. 4 litre is also too small for 2 people if you drink water throughout the day. Water does taste good and stays icy cold though which was nice. But not practical for me.23/04/2021, By TanitaLove this Water filter, you can taste the difference in the water :)28/12/2020, By BeeWe are so happy with our Stefani 6Lt (already sold out), which is ideal for our household of 2 adults and 4 animals. The taste is fantastic and we can rest assured about the purity. Furthermore the water is always cool and refreshing.
No more purchasing of water in plastic bottles, no more leaching of nasty chemicals!13/12/2020, By DeborahSo pleased with this purchase, will never have to buy bottled water again. It has a very pleasant taste. The only complaint is that it arrived with 2 small defects/chips on the rim and body of the top unit, but these are minor, so I can live with it.08/10/2020, By DaphneI have 2 of these water filters. I bought one here and was gifted on yesterday. They are investment pieces. You can taste the difference in water immediately. Long lasting. Easy to maintain.28/08/2020, By GloriaI had issues with clogged candles after about 3 weeks of use, making the flow of water very slow. According to the instructions, it could be an air bubble and the candles have to be shaken, but there was also a reddish sediment on the candle itself which had to be cleaned frequently and scrubbed. Even though the taste of the water is good the frequent cleaning process makes it very impractical.27/07/2020, By CandiceReally like this product, we used it for a coupke of years. It is so nice to have peace of mind that you are drinking safer water.21/06/2020, By ManinieStill works and looks beautiful after a couple of years use. Love it12/06/2020, By Reviewing For YouThis water filter is an investment. You can actually taste the difference with all the minerals that have been filtered and even looking at it, it just looks clear. The only downside is that it takes a while to filter, but that's a small price to pay for the use of this water system.10/01/2020, By OI have had mine since 1999. Having tried other products over the years including the office type filter cooler dispensers, I still go back to Stefani.
My current challenge is my pot is worn out. Is there a way to renew it. Also car are not readily available at times of need.14/12/2019, By aileenGreat, water tastes amazing, keep it at a perfect temp for drinking even in the humid Durban heat . Wish we had bought the 6L.07/10/2019, By SusanThis water filter works wonderfully,I would recommend it to anyone. Our drinking water was not fit for human consumption an the filter cleans it crystal clear.26/08/2019, By NinaOut of all water filtering options available, this one is the best because it takes everything you don't want in your water while still allowing for the healthy trace minerals to remain (thanks to the clay part!). It's a bit of extra work, but honestly, optimal health is worth it!19/08/2019, By AvrilThis was a good decision. We are loving the Stefani and the thought that we are drinking good healthy water.09/05/2019, By KimLove this water filter. Once the initial clay/earthy taste of the ceramic clears, the water is always cool, clear and fresh tasting.06/05/2019, By DianeI bought this as a wedding gift, but I have had my own for 7 years and I love it! It has seen us safely through many municipal water woes. The spare parts are easy to get and the filter lasts well, so it is good value for money!05/05/2019, By BarbLove this filter. I think it's a good thing that the lid is plastic. I know I'd eventually bang the urn with it and chip something if it was ceramic.06/02/2019, By TracyBecause I’m a bit paranoid about the state of Joburg’s water, I’ve been double-treating our drinking water – boiling and cooling it first, then filtering it through the Stefani purifier. After 2 months of use, the purifying candle is a gross shade of brown, showing that the filter is definitely doing its job. Our drinking water is now deliciously cool and clear, with none of Joburg’s characteristic chemical taste. Maintenance is minimal, and the recommended wipe-down with Sunlight liquid does take care of any mineral marks on the outside of the unit. But if I’d known how much we would love our Stefani-filtered water, I’d have bought the 6 litre purifier.10/01/2019, By CarolineI am very, VERY satisfied with this purchase!! We are a family of three and the filter provides MORE than enough water so long as it is regularly topped up. I keep two glass jugs next to the filter: a 1L jug for adding tapwater, and a 500ml jug for decanting into glasses, pots, the kettle, fridge, etc. Instead of wiping the outside of the filter with "Sunlight Liquid" (to guard against mildew, and to remove precipitated salts and dust - as indicated in the Instructions), I used some Triple Orange Wonder Gel. It would be 100% perfect if the cap and tap were not made with plastic.31/12/2018, By JackieThis was my Christmas present to myself and I am so, so happy. It's the best thing I've bought for a long time, constant supply of fresh, cool, filtered water. It looks good and even though at first I thought it was a bit big, I found a place for it and I love it. I can't recommend it enough, especially with the water situation in Cape Town.18/12/2018, By LynnLOVE,LOVE,LOVE it! I've been deliberating over which water filter to buy for a long time, and this one is a perfect choice. I love the natural look and feel of it and the pure taste of the water, but what makes it the best choice of all the purifiers is that the terracotta gives it the perfect temperature, not room temperature or ice cold, but just right! One of my best ever purchases.25/07/2018, By MelThis is the most amazing product, I absolutely LOVE it!10/05/2018, By JohaniAbsolutely love my Stefani water filter. I would recommend future buyers to go for the 6l though. There's a very small difference in price considering that it'll probably last a lifetime.04/05/2018, By BridgetReally great product, except I don't like the plastic lid! If it had a clay lid I would have scored it 509/03/2018, By JeannieI am so happy that I purchased this water filter. It is beautifully made and works like a dream. Feels wonderful to have my water filtering and being stored in this gorgeous filter. Fabulous!25/02/2018, By ClaudiaThis is one of the best purchases I have ever made. The water always tastes great, is cool and you are aware of drinking 'clean water' at all times. I will always use this product.19/02/2018, By IanWater was good from the start with little clay taste.
Plastic lid is a bit well, plasticy. Would look better with a textured finish and better colour match.
A simple cage around the float would protect it from damage
Perhaps a shorter larger diameter candle.would keep all of it flooded for longer resulting in better overall efficiency10/02/2018, By chefymumAbsolutely love this product and the service from Faithful to Nayire is amazing!! They go the extra mile and are one of the best ecommerce companies I have used in SA!29/01/2018, By Pennywhere can I buy new filters? mine are so mudded up that I am sure I need new ones.... and
don't know how to clean the gunge off them.22/01/2018, By DeeRWould definitely recommend it...I have already! The water is so nice and the fact that it's cool is a bonus! Love it! I just can't get enough of the water and even pack it work!12/10/2017, By RyanLove this lil guy! Fresh clean water err'day.
4/5 Only because the design flow could be better. But 5/5 for cool clean water.
Get 6ltr if you're more than two people.03/10/2017, By ArynWe've had this water filter for over a year now and absolutely love it. The quality of our drinking water has vastly improved. It is simple and easy to assemble and use and the filter candles last really well.31/08/2017, By JamesI grew up with one of these and was very pleased to find them available on this site. Very happy with the product and the quality and taste of water.04/08/2017, By RoxanneI bought this on behalf of my parents who are very pleased with it. As a bonus they tested with litmus paper and the water is Alkaline as opposed to their previous water source (Woolworths bottled water which is Acidic).09/07/2017, By Enaafter the float was leaking water (overflowing) for over ayear the supplier sent me one, all ok ,,.... now the water tap leaking26/05/2017, By KerenI love my Stefani. The water is cooler than tap water and tastes better. The kettle no longer has calc deposits in it. You will need to clean it out as per instructions to get rid of the clay taste. But once that is done you will love it for life. I can't recommend this enough, for a peace of mind that you family is getting healthy chemical free water.26/05/2017, By TaniaThe only problem I have with the purifier is that we should have bought the 6 litre as suddenly our kids drink much more water. This is a really phenomenal purifier, money well spent.15/11/2016, By RolandVery pleased,
The Stefani Water Purifiers really do make a difference and are well worth the investment. We have been using it for a few months and Id note the following:
1. Get one pack of citric acid when you buy a new one, (http://www.faithful-to-nature.co.za/Crafty-Cultures-Citric-Acid-p-9372.html), if you don't already have some. It quickens the running-in of the purifier.
2. If we could do it over, we'd go for the 6 litre version. It isnt a real issue, but most folk will just have a little less to do.
3. Our municipal water has gotten very bad in the last week or two, water shortage, and the purified water is not as taste-neutral as before, yes the candle has been cleaned - even replaced. It is still miles better than what comes out of the tap and is good for most boiling things.12/09/2016, By KatrienI was sceptical and cautious in buying this. It seemed so much money for a glorified jug. After crunching some numbers we realised how much we were saving and when it arrived - win-win! We love it. Even our coffee tastes better :-)09/09/2016, By SarahDue to the drought in KZN, the municipality turns the water off every night, for some reason this has really effected the taste and smell of the water. I love water and easily drink 2 ltrs a day but couldn stomach the taste and smell anymore. I did a lot of research on water filters and finally settled on the Stefani Water Filter. I LOVE this filter, it looks very orange in the picture but it is more of a cray colour it is not overly bold at all, it does not make a big statement in my kitchen, it tastes smooth and clean and no smell at all. It takes a long time to filter so I fill it up every night and every morning I have delicious water for the day. I can say enough good things about this filter.
