The coffee contains raw maca powder. (from a root of a plant grown in South America) The Peruvians have been eating Maca for a very long time, but the big difference is that they COOK the root before eating it. Raw Maca powder contains a inhibiting digestive enzyme. If you suffer from stomach cramps, dizziness, nausea, headaches, or a change in your menstrual cycle then please consider that it could be the cause of raw maca consumption. {I had to find this out the hard way!}
It apparently belongs to the crusiferous family (like broccoli, cabbage etc) and can cause digestive upsets like cramping, bloating, gas etc. So Fodmappers need to avoid it.
Not only that but it can interfere with hormones and cause estrogen dominance. It can also cause you to have irregular or early mensus. (I experienced all this).
My son also had the sore stomach, dizziness and nausea from another product we were taking for smoothies which had raw maca root powder in it. We know it was the maca in both cases as when we stopped all products containing maca the symptoms cleared up.
Please do your own research on the side effects of Maca root powder before begining products that contain it. It seems the side effects can outweigh the good.
If we consider we don't eat raw potatoes-some food is meant to be cooked in order to reap the full benefits of it. Maca seems to be one of those. Not everything raw is good for you.

To brew the coffee: I used my nespresso machine (I have these re-usable pods). I add some of this powder to the pod. Slot it in the Nespresso and add single or double shot of this coffee blend to a cup. Add little amount of milk and some honey to sweeten it up a bit.
You could also use a plunger or percolator to make the coffee
It's got a nice cinnamony coffee earthy flavor. Definitely wakes you up and very good ingredients in there. Superfoods adds some vitamins that you normally wouldn't get from you normal daily diet and fresh foods, like the Maca and Lucama.
Turmeric is a good anti-inflammatory and adds a nice flavor to the coffee. Some Spice!

It tasted so good and I enjoyed the chocolate and cinnamon flavours. I think the superfood ingredients were a too potent for me though. I had a cup in the evening before supper. Then at around 4AM I woke up with stomach pains, nausea, and diarrhoea. I think this one cup just gave me a super detox in the space of a few hours. I probably really needed it. I ended up throwing away the sample bag a I do not want to experience this again.
