Collagen is the most abundant protein in our bodies. It is the main component of several of our body parts such as tendons, ligaments, our skin and muscles.
Is Collagen Faithful to Nature?
Yes.
Depends. Only ethically sourced collagen will pass our strict ingredient policy. We ensure that our chicken and bovine collagen is sourced from pasture-raised animals that are properly cared for and were not subject to hormone treatments. We will only allow marine collagen that is sustainably fished and we ensure that our section of vegetarian and vegan-friendly collagen is free from nasty preservatives and flavourings.
Benefits: Why is Collagen Used?
Natural Anti-Ageing Benefits
Collagen is believed to have natural anti-ageing benefits as it aids joint support, rejuvenates hair and nails, enhances skin elasticity and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Muscle Recovery
When it is incorporated alongside a balanced diet, a collagen supplement can help you recover faster from exercise and even improve digestive health.
Bone Strength
Collagen can help increase bone density by slowing the ageing process.
Heart Health
Collagen ensures that our arteries remainn flexible and elastic and may therefore reduce the risk of heart conditions.
Our careful selection of collagen supplements comes from a variety of sources such as grass-fed bovine collagen, marine collagen, as well as vegetarian and vegan collagen powder and boosters. Bovine collagen comes from the hides and connective tissues of cows. Marine collagen comes from the skin and scales of fish. Plant-based collagen is made from a selection of plant-derived ingredients including pea protein and rice protein that are combined with natural ingredients such as ilica, Beta-Carotene and Glycine.
The skin is carefully cleaned and excess fat is removed. The collagen is removed from the skin through boiling (hydrolysis). Hydrolysis heats and breaks down the collagen so the body can absorb it. Then the collagen is made into a fine powder through milling and evaporation techniques.
Collagen is wonderfully versatile and it can be easily incorporated into your meals. Anytime is a good time to consume collagen! You can even add collagen to morning coffee or evening tea because it is not destroyed by heat.
There are four difefrent types of collagen:
Type I: The most common type, present in all connective tissue.
Type II: Is found in joints.
Type II: Present in reticular fibers that are part of our skin and blood vessels.
Type IV: Is a component of kidneys, inne ear and eye lenses.
Worth noting: Vitamin C is essential for collagen synthesis, so make sure that you increase your intake of vitamin C rich foods when consuming collagen.
