Piima Yoghurt is a Scandinavian treat that is light and creamy with a buttermilk-like savour, one of the thinner yoghurts that makes a great probiotic yoghurt drink. Crafty Cultures brings you the starter culture you’ll need to create its moreish tang indefinitely with an heirloom culture that cultures at room temperature without the need of a special appliance such as a yoghurt maker.  It’s brimming with healthy probiotics for your tummy and you can use it to make mouth-watering cultured butter from cream, or buttermilk too. Add it to salad dressings for a wonderful mild and creamy cheese-like tartness.

Benefits of yoghurt

Yoghurt is naturally fermented by bacteria that is known as ‘friendly bacteria’ because it is so beneficial for supporting your delicate balance of healthy gut flora. Feeding your gut with healthy bacteria can help ease a number of digestive problems such as wind and bloating and help restore the balance if you have been on a course of antibiotics which can damage your microflora. It’s also filled with nutrients such as calcium, vitamin B2, B12, potassium, and magnesium. Those are mildly lactose intolerant often find they can tolerate yoghurt because the bacteria convert the lactose into lactic acid.
