Khoisan salt is hand harvested salt produced by the forces of sun, sea and wind off the West coast of South African. It all started in 1991 when the plans were laid for the salt pans in St Helena Bay, and soon Khoisan salt was a thriving business, run by the Schrauwen family. Khoisan employs people exclusively from the local community as an ongoing investment and upliftment  to support locals suffering from curbacks in fishing permits. They take the welfare and development of their employees seriously and work closely with Fair Trade Associates, ensuring that employees are treated fairly and financially assisting them with education, driver’s licences as well as children’s school fees.

Khoisan produce a mineral rich, pure natural unrefined sea salt which is hand harvested in the traditional way. This pristine and pure salt is a true delicacy for the taste senses and makes for sophisticated gourmet cooking with its well-rounded taste and the marvellous and mysterious sensation it produces as it melts in on the tongue - once tasted, never forgotten. They have branched their range out to include delicious naturally gourmet flavoured salts and bath salts too.
