Pomegranate

Other Name(s):

Punica granatum; CAS# 84961-57-9

Pomegranate trees are native to the Middle East, the Mediterranean and some parts of Central Asia. They thrive especially well in areas with hot, medium-rainfall summers and cold winters. They’re a little sensitive to fungal infections and root rot, so they need well-drained soils. The Pomegranate Association of South Africa reports that they’re a very difficult crop to grow and that only experienced fruit farmers should attempt to cultivate them.

Is Pomegranate Faithful to Nature?

Yes.

Pomegranate as a food item or its seed oil is a natural ingredient, with unique properties compared to other vegetable oils. It can be grown sustainably and manufactured safely.

Benefits: Why is Pomegranate Used?

Deeply Hydrating

Pomegranate Seed Oil deeply hydrates and is rapidly absorbed.

Collagen Boost

Pomegranate Seed Oil promotes the skin’s natural collagen production.

Anti-Ageing Properties

Pomegranate Seed Oil reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Immune Support

The high content of vitamin C and antioxidants make pomegranate juice a great natural immune booster.

Pomegranate Seed Oil can be found as a single ingredient serum to use on the face and body, but formulators of premium, natural skincare and cosmetic ranges also use it in lipstick, moisturisers, and massage oils. The juice of the pomegranate is sold as a standalone product or an ingredient in others predominantly used for its high vitamin C content.

Pomegranate Seed Oil can be made by both hot and cold press techniques. The seeds themselves are usually sourced as a byproduct of the pomegranate juice making process.

Pomegranate seed oil contains roughly 2.8% stearic acid, 5.3% palmitic acid, 13.3% oleic acid, 13.5% linoleic acid, and 65% punicic acid (sometimes referred to as omega-5).
