Patchouli

Other Name(s):

Pogostemon cablin Oil; CAS# 8014-09-3

Pogostemon cablin is native to the tropical regions of Asia. It thrives in warm, humid climates with rich, loamy soil. It’s farmed in regions where there is reliable annual rainfall and grows especially well in manure fertilised soil. As a fleshy, herbaceous plant it is subject to some common pest insects.

Is Patchouli Faithful to Nature?

Yes.

Patchouli Essential Oil is a beautifully aromatic ingredient that can be manufactured safely and farmed sustainably without harming the environment. It is, however, a powerful ingredient and should be used wisely.

Benefits: Why is Patchouli Used?

Distinctive Scent

Patchouli Essential Oil has a warm, musky, spicy scent often used in perfumes.

Supports Collagen

Patchouli Essential Oil reduces the breakdown of collagen from sun damage.

Glowing Complexion

Patchouli essential oil can help reduce the appearance of fine lines, blemishes, and skin imperfections.

Mood-Harmonizing

In aromatherapy Patchouli essential oil is used for its balalancing and grounding effects on emotions.

Patchouli Essential Oil can be found as a single ingredient product like all essential oils but is also used extensively in fragrance formulation, moisturisers, foundations, bar soaps, cleansers and more.

Patchouli Essential Oil is made by steam distillation of the dried leaves.

EU regulations specify that certain fragrance oils commonly found in natural essential oils must be labelled separately on ingredient lists on cosmetic product labels. The EU governing bodies specify this because they are recognised as potential allergens which can irritate sensitive skin. Patchouli Essential Oil contains no allergens recognised by the European Union.

Patchouli is a member of the mint family.
