Magnesium Sulphate can be found as a single ingredient product labelled “Epsom Salt” but is also used in natural bath salts, bath soaks, electrolyte replacement drinks, in beer as an acidity regulator and in canned vegetables.

Naturally occurring deposits of kieserite are found in salt pans where sea water becomes concentrated after prolonged evaporation. Kieserite typically contains 15.0% magnesium (25% as magnesium oxide, 75% as magnesium sulphate), 20.0% sulphur (as sulphate), up to 2.5% chlorides, and 12% water. The Magnesium Sulphate can be isolated from the other contents using electrostatic separation methods. Alternatively, it can be made by reacting magnesium oxide with sulphuric acid.

Epsom salt has anti-inflammatory properties which make it s a very suitable alternative for after sun lotions. You can mix 2 tablespoons of Epsom salt with 1 cup of water into an empty spray bottle and apply it to the body parts that have been exposed too much to the sun.
