Foeniculum vulgare is native to the Mediterranean but has spread far-and-wide across the planet. It thrives in sunny areas with mild temperatures and is considered a cool-season crop. It’s quite frost resistant and doesn’t require much water, needing a minimum of just 400 mm annually. The optimum fertiliser for growing fennel is farmyard manure.
