Harriet Sourdough Starter Culture (in a Sachet) is all you need to make your very own gluten-free sourdough starter. This sachet contains a dehydrated organic brown rice flour starter that may reactivated by mixing with water. And can then be used to make gluten free sourdough bread, pizza, ciabatta, waffles, cake, pancakes, and crackers –and pretty much anything else you put your mind to!

Description
  • Quick & easy organic brown rice flour starter culture
  • Reactivate culture by mixing with spring mineral water.
  • Free from preservatives and additives like sugar

Directions: 

How to:
Stage 1:

  • Stir ½ teaspoon of dried starter culture into 1 tablespoon of water into a small jar
  • Add 1-2 tablespoons of water if necessary to reach desired consistency
  • Cover jar with tea towel/dish cloth (do not seal with lid)
  • Allow 24 for fermentation at an ambient temperature of 25°C

Stage 2:

  • Add brown rice flour and water.
  • Stir vigorously
  • Cover
  • Leave for 24 hours

Stage 3:

  • Add 60 grams of Sourdough Starter Culture and 60 ml of water
  • Stir vigorously
  • Cover
  • Leave for 24 hours
  • This is a live culture you maintain by keeping in the fridge between baking

Care Instructions:

  • When in its dried form, store in a cool dry place.

Did you know? The shelf life of the starter is approximately 2 years in this dried form.

I've never done sourdough and figured I couldn't since I had to quite gluten, but I got this on an impulse buy. Took some days to get it going but it's been reliable, easy to park off in fridge. Tasty. I haven't yet got the hang of making bread, but I get lovely flapjacks and crackers from the cast offs.
