Marula is native to many African countries (including South Africa, Malawi, Namibia, Niger, Botswana, Gambia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and more). Commercial marula groves require only the use of natural fertilisers (like cow manure), and minimal irrigation. Unfortunately, there are quite a few pest insects (fruit flies etc.) which can be problematic and the use of some pesticides is mostly necessary.

Marula Oil is used in a select few African skincare, and cleansing ranges including moisturisers, serums, shampoos, conditioners and more. It can also be found as a single-ingredient product to be used at home as part of DIY formulations.
Marula Oil is made by first removing the fleshy fruit and skin from the kernels. The kernels are subsequently ground and pressed to extrude the oil. The traditional method of extracting marula seed oil is to use a large, wooden mortar and pestle.
Marula oil and seed paste are enjoyed in Namibia as part of many traditional foods.
Marula fruit spirits are matured for over two years until they are added to cream as a dessert liqueur.
