The handle is made of MOS bamboo, an environmentally sustainable timber. Bamboo is technically considered a member of the grass family that is not only incredibly abundant but is the fastest growing plant on earth too. The bamboo is cultivated between three to five years, and then harvested. It re-generates itself naturally, with minimal rain and without the need for harmful pesticides. In fact, by harvesting and using the bamboo, we help to control unwanted spread into agricultural and natural forest areas. The bamboo is grown by many local farmers (NOT PLANTATION).
The bamboo is heat treated to carbonise the surface of the bamboo, giving it a quality finish and good service life. The carbonisation finishing process provides water resistance and prevents the growth of microbes (bacteria and moulds) during normal use.
The bristles are made from a BPA FREE polymer resistant to microbial growth during normal use, to ensure safety and durability.
Disposing of your toothbrush
For best results, most dentist's recommend you replace your toothbrush either monthly or at least every quarter some even say use it until it stops.
To answer the main question, HOW LONG DOES IT LAST? - We test drove a toothbrush for over 8 months so yes they last (not that we suggest you do that).
The Environmental Toothbrush handle can be disposed of safely by returning it to earth in compost or landfill. The bamboo handle will biodegrade into soil without pollution, we suggest that you remove the bristles so as to safely and properly allow the bamboo handle to biodegrade.
China’s Giant Panda consumes the soft bamboo shoots, stems and leaves as its main food source. The Environmental Toothbrush honours this environmental mascot in the logo. Because bamboo is so abundant, sustainable and renewable our use does not impact on the food source of the Giant Panda in fact they do not like the MOSO bamboo.
60 out of 70 people would recommend this product09/05/2020, By CarynLove this toothbrush15/10/2019, By LesyI like this toothbrush and happy that I switched. But I found the bristles to me a bit hard. Not exactly the soft I was expecting31/08/2019, By MTo big and uncomfortable. The bamboo cut the inside of my lips.Yay! While the bristles are are still plastic, it is great to have a toothbrush with a lower plastic footprint.05/07/2019, By Julie-AnnWith 7.8 billion tonnes of plastic on earth, and the continued production of 300 million tonnes of plastic per year, it is great to have a toothbrush with a lower plastic footprint. Hopefully material innovations will enable the plastic bristles to be replaced by an eco-friendly alternative in time!20/06/2019, By CharlaI recommend this products04/06/2019, By StaceI love it. It’s functional and cleans well :) Would be cool if the bristles were eco friendly too.06/05/2019, By AlexI really don't like this toothbrush. Even though the handle is sanded smooth, I found it unbearable to use. It is so dry and scratchy on the inside of my cheeks, especially since I use a natural toothpaste that doesn't foam at all. Maybe with a regular toothpaste it wouldn't be so bad. Props for making an alternative to plastic toothbrushes, but I had to go back to Oral-B.16/04/2019, By DomBristles were soft and good for people with sensitive gums.21/02/2019, By MichelleI am a loyal user of this fantastic toothbrush. Great design!18/02/2019, By FallonI have read through some of the other reviews. I didn't think the soft bristles were hard at all. I found them quite soft and the brush is easy to use. It's much lighter than a normal plastic toothpaste. I am looking forward to making small eco-friendly choices including this toothpaste. I am keen on my next purchase to buy the medium bristles and try that as well.26/05/2018, By MichaelaWhile the bristles aren't as soft as I expected, my mouth does feel squeaky clean after using this toothbrush with my PureBeginnings toothpaste.17/05/2018, By KomboKatjieGlad not to be using plastic anymore!09/05/2018, By CarlaThis is my first eco toothbrush and I am so happy I have made the switch. Love that you have the option of getting a soft or medium bristle. However after buying both, the soft isn't as soft as I would have thought. I would say the soft is medium and the medium is hard to be honest. The head of the toothbrush could do with some sort of eco-friendly resin as the feel of dry wood is not the best. You do get used to it after a while and is better when the wood is soaked. Its a preference but I do see that some of the other reviewers have the same preference. Might just make your brand stand out from the other bamboo toothbrushes on the market too! Anyway I'm a fan of what you do even after the above.26/04/2018, By VictoireMy review has nothing to do with the product and everything to do with my personal preference! The brush head is a little too big for my liking and the bristles not as soft as I am used to. Also, I hated the feel of wood in my mouth! It's like some people don't like the scratching sound of chalk on a blackboard... it was just unbearable for me.23/04/2018, By IlseI am loving this toothbrush. It is rather beautiful as well. I am going to give these out as presents from now in to bring this awareness to my friends. Hopefully we will all start using less plastic.16/04/2018, By EmThis is the second one i bought. The first one lasted about 10 months. Absolutely worth it!15/04/2018, By TashAwesome product. Cleans well.10/04/2018, By FrankiWhat a great toothbrush! I really like the firm bristles, and the fact that it can be composted is fantastic. I'm also pleased that this product contains no animal derivatives and is panda-friendly. I will definitely keep on buying this product.05/04/2018, By RayBought this recently before going to Tankwa Karoo and I am so pleased with the coverage. Another thing I like about this product is that it is plastic free.12/03/2018, By LourenI love the idea of this product and do enjoy using it, however I have found the back of the toothbrush to be quite rough on the insides of my cheeks and also wish that the bristles didn't cover such a huge space. I have small teeth and because the bristles take up so much space, I have really been hurting my gums a lot09/03/2018, By TaniaEnvironmental-friendliness aside (and that's a huge plus), I love this toothbrush. The bristles are soft but sturdy enough to feel that my mouth is getting a good clean and my gums haven't bled once since using it.13/02/2018, By BiancaI don't really want to write a negative review but if somehow this means improving the toothbrush then maybe it's ok, because I really support the whole concept and wanted this toothbrush to be the one but the bristles are just too hard and it makes brushing an uncomfortable affair. I pushed through my first toothbrush and even started on the second but my gums had the last say and they said please stop.12/02/2018, By MoniqueI recently bought a few of these and handed them out as gifts. I absolutely love mine and my friends and family do too. The bristles are super soft and gentle. And I love the packaging.07/02/2018, By JanineWas hoping this would be the toothbrush for me but its just too hard for my sensitive teeth and gums.31/01/2018, By OliviaWonderful alternative to plastic toothbrushes! I am so glad we made the switch. I would definitely recommend the softer bristles. Sturdy and sassy - a new favourite!22/01/2018, By CaseyThis toothbrush is great! I tend to be a person who brushes hard without realizing and therefore causing my gums to hurt, but this toothbrush is soft and effective enough to do a great job. I waiting to do the review for a while to truly test it out, just ensure that you clean it properly every time it is made use of. Also, one or two bristles have come out but nothing major. I love that I can drop it into the compost heap I am starting when I'm done with it.18/01/2018, By PaulineThis is a simply great toothbrush and the second time I have ordered it. In fact this time I ordered three, in case it is ever out of stock! It's really nice to grip even when your hands are wet and I found the soft bristle to be rather like a medium bristle, so it was perfect for me. The fact that it's biodegradable is an added bonus of course!17/01/2018, By GiaNice and soft, great for use with homemade toothpaste which is quite abrasive.01/01/2018, By MeganGreat toothbrush, a bit of a change from the normal plastic ones but after a while you get used to it and you will never look back.29/12/2017, By JessieI love this toothbrush. It is effective and I love that it is made from bamboo.19/12/2017, By AjDoes the job well. Won't buy another plastic toothbrush again!14/12/2017, By EmmGreat little toothbrush09/12/2017, By NikkiI have been using a bamboo toothbrush for over a year now and I absolutely love it! It is definitely not as hard as plastic toothbrushes, and it looks pretty cool too.03/12/2017, By AstraWhat an interesting concept! I am trying to go completely green, and all the products I have bought from Faithful to Nature are so good. It costs a bit more, but I do care for the environment, and for my domestic worker's lungs.27/11/2017, By TanithI originally rated this product a 4/5, but on only about the 10th time I used it, the head broke and all the bristles fell out - very disappointed. I had hardly used it (as I normally use my electric toothbrush) so was very irritated that it didn't last17/11/2017, By AnelVery nice, love that they are fully biodegradable. Would prefer something a bit more ergonomic, but not sure if that can be done with bamboo.08/11/2017, By KhayaI have been using these toothbrushes for over a year, I'll never purchase a plastic one again :)07/11/2017, By barrycheapest but best toothbrush I've ever had :)20/10/2017, By MelGreat toothbrush. The soft bristles still clean perfectly. I fell good knowing I am not harming the environment with even more plastic than it can already handle. The only "uncomfortable" factor is the shape of the stick/handle. It would be lovely if it was a bit more round, its just a bit awkward to hold.08/10/2017, By Tracey JoyPerfect partner in a quest to be kinder to yourself & the planet04/10/2017, By CatherineA fantastic toothbrush - love it. Yes yes yes! Environmentally friendly and does the job :) Love the look and feel too.30/09/2017, By JolandiExcellent! As good as a normal toothbrush in every way but good for the environment. I quite like the soft bristles and think it is reasonably soft.23/09/2017, By NitaQuality was beyond what I expected! I have sensitive gums and the soft bristle is perfect18/08/2017, By AnelUsing less plastic and helping the environment AND having a great toothbrush = WIN :)17/08/2017, By JasmineThe best toothbrush I've ever used. More than a novelty, although it's pretty cool to use. Feels exactly like a normal toothbrush will never use plastic ones again!06/08/2017, By CandzI love how light this toothbrush is to hold, and I'm convinced the natural bristles froth the toothpaste even better than a plastic one. Not only is it great for the environment, but great to use as well! This is definitely the only toothbrush I will use from on...and I will be persuading friends and family to do the same.26/07/2017, By IndievibesWonderful product!! Will never go back to the usual toothbrushes
12/07/2017, By JanetI chose the soft option and it is not soft (I would maybe rate it medium). Very disappointed as was really hoping to find a great eco-friendly solution but the brush is too hard.08/07/2017, By TanyaYes and No.. I really wanted an eco toothbrush.. but.. the soft bristle brush is still super hard, its not a soft toothbrush at all..the hard toothbrush then must be the same as a nailbrush.. my dentist told me that we are brushing our gums away with all these hard toothbrushes.. and gums cant grow back.. secondly when the wood gets wet it has a weird mouth feel to it..I think a little coating on the wood wouldn't hurt.. thirdly I bought two brushes for my husband and I.. but they look exactly the same... who's brush is who's because they are all the same colour.. and design? not that I have the need for a pink toothbrush.. but just a small indicator to know which one is which one..(maybe a small picture of a Panda Pappa or a bamboo twig..?) I had to mark it myself.. I think the product developers should have a sit down with a dentist.. or compare the product with other products.. I feel great about the panda.. but I want to feel great using it too..28/06/2017, By HeatherI am converted to these bamboo toothbrushes. They brush well, feel great and are great for the environment! You just have to be careful not to confuse yours with other family members :-)09/06/2017, By CorienBought 2. One works fine, but the otherone had a crack through the top and the bristles came out after one use.05/06/2017, By LauNo complaints, just got to mark my brush with a marker so we don't mix tooth brushes02/06/2017, By KarenBristles last well and affordable28/05/2017, By Ajgreat buy!28/05/2017, By Ajgreat buy!24/05/2017, By ArlineSuch a nice toothbrush, not only good looking but really nice and soft and small
I'm happy23/05/2017, By FatimaI like this toothbrush a lot. I took the advice of some reviewers who said that the medium bristle is too hard (I used a medium bristle in the plastic brush). The soft one is perfect. I wish it had the tongue scraper thing at the back.30/04/2017, By StephThis toothbrush is amazing! Removes plaque well and leaves my teeth feeling so clean. This brush also scrubs the tongue really well. It does have a wooden taste though like eating an ice cream off a stick.26/10/2016, By JanetIve just bought my third replacement brush - have been using these for about 2 years... LOVE it. I do prefer the soft bristles to the medium ones, but of course that is personal preference. Highly recommended product, very much worth it.02/08/2016, By DeanneThe bristles are nice and soft and its not abrasive on my teeth at all. I don see the point in buying a commercial toothbrush when this one does the job and saves the environment. Will definitely keep purchasing it.02/06/2016, By SamLove my toothbrush - am never going to buy anything else. I tend to brush quite hard so the soft bristles are perfect!!! Best thing is that I feel rocks now about discarding it when its lifespan is over...no worries about creating more toxic landfill11/03/2016, By SandraLove these toothbrushes - I won use anything else.22/12/2015, By JacoThe bristles are nice and soft which works well with my sensitive gums. It is important to let the toothbrush dry after every use though because I think it could get mouldy rather quickly.06/10/2015, By JustinLike some others here I too am guilty of brushing harder than I should, the soft brush cleans perfectly and is very gentle on the gums.16/09/2015, By sashaVery soft and gentle on the gums, and the company is cruelty-free and does not test on animals, like just about every other dental care company in South Africa. Will buy again and again.15/04/2015, By M. Paloma WernerAfter first getting the medium toothbrush, which I found too hard I switched to the soft one and it is perfect. I love the fact that it is biodegradable and the wood looks nice.11/12/2014, By TaraI love this toothbrush! The fact that its bio-degradeable and sustainable to produce makes it wonderful. The product itself is great, cleans my teeth and does its job! Would recommend it to everyone to use. I use the soft bristle on as it is gentler on my gums as I tend to brush too hard.24/08/2011, By MelanieI think it was in my previous order I ordered the wooden toothbrushes for me and my son - both of us, LOVE our
toothbrushes! It feels as if cleanses and brushes much better that the traditional x-brands lol,
and even my son prefers the wooden one above his spider-man brush - and that must say a lot,
can you believe it lol?26/05/2011, By JessicaLoving this product! None of those silly toothbrush gimmicks. Although I think next time I will go for the medium bristle because the soft is a bit too soft for my liking.
