**Please Note: Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate is one of the ingredients that we’re watching closely. This is what we know about it – to use it or not to use is your call.
- Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate is approved by ECOCERT, and is also approved in the new COSMOS organic standard.
- The ingredient is sulphate-free, it is not processed with ethylene oxide or 1,4dioxane, and has a good sensitivity rating.
- The Cosmetics Database finds Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate to be a moderate hazard ingredient, primarily because of its potential to be contaminated with nitrosamine (a known carcinogen) and because of its classification as a penetration enhancer.
- Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate should not be used in cosmetics and personal care products in which N-nitroso compounds may be formed (CosmeticsInfo.org).
- Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate is not expected to be potentially toxic or harmful, and has a low oral toxicity. It is not found to be mutagenic, irritating or sensitizing, although it may enhance the penetration of other ingredients through the skin which is a good or a bad thing depending on what other ingredients it is mixed with.
- It has an EWG rating – the rating is 3/10, primarily due to data gaps.
43 out of 45 people would recommend this product04/09/2017, By Tebogo MeyersfeldMy 18 month old used to fight when we had to brush his teeth, that was when we were still using the "normal" store bought kiddie toothpaste.
As soon as we switched to this one, he happily opens his mouth and I can rest assured that no harm will come to him by swallowing this toothpaste.31/08/2017, By CarlyGreat Product. My kids love it.02/08/2017, By Megan -leeBeen using this brand of toothpaste for a year with my LO, she doesn't mind the taste, teeth and gums are healthy.01/08/2017, By AlexandraExcellent toothpaste for people who don't like strong flavours I use it because I am taking homoeopathic remedies which are rendered ineffective if one uses a minty toothpaste28/07/2017, By NadiaMy little girl of 2 just loves her hoo-hoo toothpaste. She doesn't like the normal grocery shop toothpaste, just this one. And it's nice to know it's safe to swallow.26/07/2017, By chiredzichicnever a fight when we use this toothpaste and the added benefit of no sugar or flouride18/07/2017, By coralieMy two year old loves it, the fact that it is safe to eat is great and it keeps well for months03/07/2017, By LaurenMy daughter loves it24/06/2017, By CazI know this product is recommended for 0-3 year olds, but I bought it for my 5 year old Daughter. She loves it and the fact that it is fluoride free makes it a winner in my books!20/06/2017, By RoxanneKids' favourite toothpaste by far06/06/2017, By SarahMy little girl loves brushing her teeth and will only do so if we use this toothpaste.25/08/2016, By SigridSo, my strong willed 15 month old has never liked being told what to do (guess who he gets that from??). Brushing his teeth became a nightly ordeal trying to dance the fine line between getting them clean, and keeping him from throwing the mother of all tantrums every night. I figured maybe changing the toothpaste (which he always swallows) and toothbrush might help, so I got this fluoride free one which tastes great and a silicone finger toothbrush.
WHAT A DIFFERENCE. I don mind so much now if he swallows the toothpaste, and he doesn fight me as much with the finger toothbrush. In fact, its a little game to see whether he can bite me before I swish my finger out of his way!
Whichever is working, I don really know. But I feel better knowing hes not swallowing poison and we have far fewer tears. Win all round, right?!03/05/2016, By GillianI use this on my 2 and a half year old daughter and she loves it. The fact that it is fluoride free, well keep using it :)20/04/2016, By raeesaMy 11 month old prefers this toothpaste to others we have tried. He has 8 teeth and loves brushing them...04/04/2016, By AngelineVery good for my nerves as I do not have to worry about fluoride being swallowed30/03/2016, By MichelleIts a great kiddies toothpaste and has lasted a looong time for my toddler. Weve had it for almost a year and we are still going strong.23/03/2016, By AlexandraI do not like strongly flavoured toothpaste so this is a really good option Mint flavours are a no-no if one is using homoeopathic remedies so this is perfect for me Use minute quantities so the question of untested ingredient not a serious issue16/03/2016, By KateMy 14 month old loves this toothpaste and I don have to worry if he swallows it. However I would prefer a xylitol free version. Surely if xylitol is toxic for dogs in the tiniest quantities, what about the effects on a small child?02/03/2016, By TinaMy primary reason was to get toothpaste for our toddler as suddenly his
previous toothpaste was hurting and the brushing becoming a nightmare.
Not only was in love of taste at first sight - he brushed his teeth THREE
TIMES last night and came to ask me first thing this morning for his
special toothpaste :)01/02/2016, By LeighMy kids love it, so I love it!20/01/2016, By NurahThe fact that this product is completely safe for my little ones to ingest, sees me coming back for more.02/12/2015, By CarlaMy 6 year old loves this tooth paste and I am happy to know that even when swallowed, it won harm him in any way. No chemicals + happy child = very happy mom28/11/2015, By SalomeSeems to work well.05/11/2015, By LieslMy toddler loves this toothpaste. I used to use Spry banana toothpaste when she was a baby, but when she got old enough to brush her own teeth I switched as the Spry toothpaste gel is clear and she would always reject the toothbrush as she couldn see any toothpaste on it. This toothpaste looks like the toothpaste mom dad use, so she now happily brushes her teeth with it. We did go through a phase where she would simply suck it off the toothbrush, but shes now back to brushing.16/09/2015, By AluI was concerned that my son wouldn like it, since the packaging doesn have his favourite superheroes on it. The 1st time he used it he said Hmmm...it tastes different, but I like it. It tastes nice!. Hes even eager to brush his own teeth now. And hasn once asked about his previous superhero toothpastes since he started using it around 2 months ago.28/08/2015, By LouiseMy kids (5 and 7) love this toothpaste. They did comment about it tasting different to the awful brand we used to use at first, but transitioned quickly and easily. Im super thrilled.11/08/2015, By AlenaMy child loves brushing with this toothpaste as well as sucking the flavour of it from her toothbrush. Both are fine with this product. And the owl on the packaging is very kid-friendly03/07/2015, By AngelineMy 6 and 3 year old use this and had no problem transitioning from the nasy barbie toothpaste to the owl toothpaste. They fight over who gets to brush their teeth first! So pleased. They brush their teeth at night as well and there no issues with morning breath after the morning brush...04/02/2015, By MichelleMy daughter (whos almost 5) has been using this toothpaste for the last 2 years with and loves it... I do feel its a better alternative to normal toothpaste and gives me peace of mind if she swallows some.
I agree that it doesn fully get rid of morning breath but I find brushing when she brushes her tongue too it does help.14/01/2015, By CarnitaMy son is 3yrs old and I have been using it for the last two years. It has a very mild, almost no taste and doesn kill morning breath but this is not a problem yet :)
I am a bit worried about the ingredient that hasn been given full approval but I still think that it is a safer than conventional toothpaste and will continue using it.
I would give it 5 stars if Pure Beginnings replaced this ingredient.06/11/2014, By SuzanneMy kids love this toothpaste and makes brushing time so much easier20/02/2014, By PatriciaMy 2 year old loves this toothpaste and it has xylitol so even better! Would highly recommend.02/10/2013, By KiaraMy 2 year old son loves this I love that I don have to stress if he does swallow a small bit.08/12/2011, By LaurenMy 2.5 year old daughter loves brushing her teeth with this toothpaste! She doesn't like rinsing so it gives me peace of mind knowing that it's ok that she swallows some of it.15/10/2011, By CarlaAfter using this toothpaste, my 4-year old son won use any commercial kids one ever again - he refuses! Loves it...13/10/2011, By HeidiMy kids are also crazy about it. No problems brushing teeth with this great product22/09/2011, By KarienWe use this for my 1 year old and he likes the taste. I've tried it myself to make sure it really cleans your teeth and it really works. Glad I found something that my son can use .01/09/2011, By AnelWe love this toothpaste. My son calls it his 'uiltjie tandepasta.' I feel secure in the knowledge that when he swallows it all is well and it looks pretty in our bathroom. Definitely buying it again.30/08/2011, By KateThe Pure Beginnings Children's Toothpaste was quite disappointing though. Both my girls (3 and 7 years old) did not like the lack of taste and refuse to use it. So I am using it as not to waste it. I think it cleans quite well, but the lack of taste and the price of it at nearly R40, I would not buy it again.05/08/2011, By Kim HorwoodLove the fact that my kids look forward to brushing their teeth and its one less fight... dont like that when I run out they refuse to brush their teeth with anything else... so FTN, come on and open up in Zambia so I never run out :)01/08/2011, By LeighMy kids are both crazy about this toothpaste and there are no battles getting them to brush teeth. The only battle is getting them to actually brush with it and NOT eat it:-)29/04/2011, By SandsMy 14month old son loves this toothpaste, and gets seriously angry when mommy "forgets" to brush his teeth at night. Lovely taste, lovely smell!07/03/2011, By Leigh-AnneMy 2 1/2 year old son loves this toothpaste and can't wait to brush his teeth with it!06/03/2011, By AntheaMy 6 yer old son loved the flavour of this toothpaste and I had no problems getting him to brush his teeth with it. Unfortunately I just found that it didn't really do the job of freshning his breath. Sometimes I would have to get him to brush his teeth twice or thrice before it took away the morning breath. I was disappointed but will consider using it for my 14 month old daughter.
