Lazanou Organic Vineyards
The name was born of the amalgamation of the founders surnames, when Lazanou was founded in 2002, one of the smallest wine farms in South Africa and started out with one vineyard with the original award winning Chenin Blanc that had been planted in 1987.
The Lazanou Organic Vineyard incorporates a number of biodiversity zones, and includes cow pastures, olive groves, orchard, an earth dam and a bird sanctuary. The vineyard is Certified Organic by Societe Generale de Surveillance (SGS) against both the EU and USA organic standards for crop production and wine processing. Biodiversity zones are created on the farm to encourage plant diversity, to attract natural predators to combat pests and diseases within the vineyards. No herbicides, pesticides or chemical fertilizers are used on the farm. The farm and cellar are audited every year to ensure that these standards are maintained.
