  • Rich with vitamins and minerals like vitamin A, calcium, iron, and manganese.
  • High levels of flavonoids, which have antioxidant abilities, particularly anthocyanin
  • Contain some omega-3 fatty acids, which is considered a “good” form of cholesterol.
  • Great source of folic acid
  • Abnormally high levels of the rare compound molybdenum

Black beans are a in a diet, and have abnormally high levels of the rare compound molybdenum, which is very difficult to add naturally to a health regimen. If you have ever reacted to sulfites, it may be because your molybdenum stores are insufficient to detoxify them. A cup of black beans will give you 172.0% of the daily value for this helpful trace mineral.

Adding more black beans into your regular diet can have health benefits for:

Cardiovascular Health – thanks to high level of fibre, high concentrations of soluble fibre, small amounts of omega-3 fatty acids, which are “good” forms of cholesterol, slightly anti-hypertensive effect

Cancer Prevention – thanks to the flavonoids found in their seed coat(color-producing phytonutrient pigments that function as antioxidants in the body to fight disease and free radicals).

Digestive Issues – thanks to unusually high levels of protein and fiber for such a small bean,

Blood Sugar – thanks to the fiber and protein in black beans keeps digestion flowing at a steady rate, as  Uneven digestive rates can cause unbalanced blood sugar levels in the body,

Nervous System – thanks to provide the necessary amino acids, of vitamin B9, or folate and molybdenum, plays a key part in the regulation of specific amino acids that the nervous system requires.

Pre-natal health – thanks to folate, which is found in such high levels within black beans and is integral to the normal and healthy development of the fetus, particularly in the brain and spinal cord.

Research published in the Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry indicates that black beans are as rich in antioxidant compounds called anthocyanins as grapes and cranberries, fruits long considered antioxidant superstars. When researchers analysed different types of beans, they found that the darker the bean's seed coat, the higher its level of antioxidant activity.

A great quality product. They do require soaking which is easy to do overnight or in the morning for use that evening.

Yes it takes a bit of effort to soak the beans overnight in the fridge and then cook them for an hour or so the next day but ... then you have the equivalent of four cans of organic black beans in the freezer ready for use. When the cooked beans have cooled a little I weight them into ziploc sandwich bags at around 250 grams per package. And if you flatten the sealed bags out to get the beans in a thin layer they freeze more quickly and also thaw a lot quicker.
