But lately more and more health fundis have been \u201cwarming up\u201d to a more winter-friendly wellbeing trend;\u00a0\u00a0<strong>souping is in<\/strong>, and it looks like it might be overtaking juicing as the number one healthy eating plan. Celebrity health and beauty icons like Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Aniston are <strong>praising the benefits of souping<\/strong>, and we&#8217;re seeing more and more convenient, affordable ways to include soup (hot or cold, sweet or savoury) in our daily diets.<\/p>\n<p>Now, while we won&#8217;t be tossing our precious juicers anytime soon, there are some definite advantages to cleansing with soup instead &#8211; particularly during the chilly winter months.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>Benefits of Souping<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Soups are easy to digest<\/li>\n<li>Soup is filling &amp; satisfying, but low in calories<\/li>\n<li>Made with whole veggies &amp; fruits, soup retains the precious fibre lost in juicing<\/li>\n<li>Certain fruits &amp; vegetables (eg. tomatoes) are actually more nutritious in their cooked state than in their raw state<\/li>\n<li>In Ayurveda, warm soups stoke your body\u2019s \u201cAgni\u201d or digestive fire, promoting healthy digestion &amp; wellbeing<\/li>\n<li>Soup is very hydrating, made with lots of water &amp; a blend of fresh produce; great for flushing out your system, leaving your skin clear &amp; glowing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you&#8217;re looking to make souping a part of your winter wellness regime, we&#8217;ve got a few fun, wholesome and delicious recipes for you to try out.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>Finnish Fruit Soup<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>This warming fruit soup is perfect as a filling breakfast on a winter morning. Makes 4-6 servings.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00bd cup <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/By-Nature-Dried-Apricots-p-5682.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">dried apricots<\/a><\/li>\n<li>\u00bd cup dried, pitted prunes<\/li>\n<li>3Tbsp dried currants<\/li>\n<li>3Tbsp <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/By-Nature-Organic-Raisins-p-3655.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">raisins<\/a><\/li>\n<li>3 cups filtered water<\/li>\n<li>2 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Good-Life-Organic-Cardamon-Pods-p-1192.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cardamom pods<\/a>, crushed<\/li>\n<li>1 Tbsp crystallized ginger (optional)<\/li>\n<li>1 slice of fresh orange<\/li>\n<li>2 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Kalyan-Organic-Whole-Cinnamon-Sticks-p-4538.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cinnamon sticks<\/a>, crushed<\/li>\n<li>2 Tbsp fresh lemon juice<\/li>\n<li>\u00bd apple, peeled , cored &amp; thinly sliced<\/li>\n<li>1Tbsp <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Natures-Choice-Corn-Starch-p-4275.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cornstarch<\/a><\/li>\n<li>\u00bc cup filtered water<\/li>\n<li>\u00bdtsp <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Kalyan-Organic-Turmeric-p-4968.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">turmeric<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Earth-Products-Organic-Paprika-Powder-p-2892.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">paprika<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>Method:<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Combine the dried fruits, lemon juice, orange slice, cinnamon &amp; cardamom in a saucepan with 3 cups of water.<\/li>\n<li>Bring to a boil, then turn off the heat, cover &amp; leave to sit for 30 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Add the apple, bring to a simmer &amp; cook about 10 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Strain the juice into another saucepan; mix the cornstarch with the \u00bc cup of water.<\/li>\n<li>Add the cornstarch mixture to the strained fruit juices, bring to a boil &amp; simmer for 5-10 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Add the cooked fruits &amp; gently heat for a little longer, then remove from heat.<\/li>\n<li>Store in a covered bowl in the fridge. Serve &amp; enjoy!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>Gwyneth Paltrow\u2019s Goop Soup<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Lean, green and delicious. Makes 2 servings.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>1tsp olive oil<\/li>\n<li>1 clove garlic, thinly sliced<\/li>\n<li>\u00bd onion, roughly diced<\/li>\n<li>1 head broccoli, cut into small florets<\/li>\n<li>2\u00bd cups filtered water<\/li>\n<li>Salt &amp; black pepper to taste<\/li>\n<li>\u00be cup arugula or watercress<\/li>\n<li>\u00bd lemon<strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>Method:<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Heat the olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat.<\/li>\n<li>Add the garlic &amp; onion; saut\u00e9 until fragrant.<\/li>\n<li>Add the broccoli &amp; cook for 4 minutes (until bright green).<\/li>\n<li>Add the water, salt, &amp; pepper; bring to a boil, then lower the heat &amp; cover.<\/li>\n<li>Cook for 8-10 minutes or until the broccoli is just tender.<\/li>\n<li>Pur\u00e9e the soup in a blender until smooth. Serve with a sliver of fresh lemon.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>Creamy Cauliflower Soup<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>This delicious creamy (but cream-free) soup is low in calories, high in nutrients and made with just 5 ingredients. Makes 4 servings.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>1Tbsp <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Earth-Products-Ghee-Clarified-Butter-p-5092.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ghee<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Crede-Organic-Coconut-Oil-Odourless-p-2431.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">coconut oil<\/a><\/li>\n<li>1Tbsp <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Eureka-Unbleached-Stone-Ground-White-Bread-Flour-p-5124.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">unbleached flour<\/a><\/li>\n<li>1 medium head of cauliflower, chopped<\/li>\n<li>\u00bd cup chopped onions<\/li>\n<li>4 cups <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/A-Vogel-Plantaforce-Low-Sodium-Stock-Cubes-MSG-Free-p-3990.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">vegetable stock<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Salt &amp; pepper to taste<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>Method:<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Melt the butter in a saucepan on low heat. Add the flour &amp; stir for about 2 minutes, to make a roux.<\/li>\n<li>Add the stock, onions &amp; cauliflower; bring to a boil on medium heat, then cover &amp; simmer over medium-low heat until the vegetables are tender (about 20 minutes).<\/li>\n<li>Pur\u00e9e in a blender until smooth. Season with salt &amp; pepper; enjoy hot.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>Strawberry Vanilla Dessert Soup<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>That\u2019s right \u2013 you can enjoy soup for dessert too! This is a sweet strawberry treat that will leave you feeling satisfied. Makes 6 servings.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>500g fresh strawberries<\/li>\n<li>1 cup organic yoghurt (or coconut yoghurt)<\/li>\n<li>\u00bdtsp <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Vanilla-Man-Vanilla-Extract-50ml-p-5608.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">vanilla extract<\/a><\/li>\n<li>250ml sparkling water<\/li>\n<li>1-2tsp <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Simply-Bee-Raw-Honey-p-4667.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">honey<\/a> or coconut nectar<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>Method:<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Place the yoghurt &amp; vanilla in a blender with 450g strawberries; process until smooth &amp; chill in the refrigerator.<\/li>\n<li>Cook the remaining 50g of strawberries with the honey or coconut nectar, to make a strawberry sauce. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the sauce from the heat. Puree in a blender, sieve &amp; chill.<\/li>\n<li>When you&#8217;re ready to serve, stir the sparkling water into the soup.<\/li>\n<li>Spoon the soup into serving bowls &amp; garnish each one with a drizzle of strawberry sauce.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>What&#8217;s your view on souping?
