It&#8217;s all about the sunshine, the chill-time and of course, a stack of delicious food!<\/p>\n<p>Now, for the vegetarians and vegans among us &#8211; as well as those entertaining veggie guests &#8211; braais can sometimes be a little tricky to navigate. After all, meat is considered the staple of any traditional braai or barbecue. Luckily, there&#8217;s no shortage of sumptuous, satisfying veggie-friendly meals that can easily be added to your next braai. Check out these fun and delicious recipes that take the &#8220;vleis&#8221; out of &#8220;braaivleis&#8221; &#8211; and enjoy a healthier summer with a heaping helping of wholesome vegetables. These goodies are also sure to tempt even the most committed carnivore&#8230;<!--more--><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Starters &amp; Sides: Chilli Butter Mealies<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Ingredients:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>100g grass-fed butter, at room temperature<\/li>\n<li>1Tbsp <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Simply-Bee-Raw-Honey-p-4667.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">raw honey<\/a> (for a vegan alternative, replace with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Great-Northern-Organic-Grade-B-Maple-Syrup-p-4981.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">maple syrup<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>1Tbsp organic tomato sauce<\/li>\n<li>2 garlic cloves, crushed<\/li>\n<li>2Tbsp <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Pronto-Mama-Chilli-Sauce-p-4922.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">chilli sauce<\/a><\/li>\n<li>6 mealies, chopped in half to serve 12<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Method:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Mash together the butter, honey, tomato sauce &amp; garlic.<\/li>\n<li>Season with a little salt &amp; pepper; beat until smooth.<\/li>\n<li>Stir in the chilli sauce.<\/li>\n<li>Using a basting brush, coat the mealies evenly with the butter mixture.<\/li>\n<li>Wrap each mealie in a double layer of tinfoil &amp; braai for 30-35 minutes, turning regularly.<\/li>\n<li>Once the mealies are tender &amp; just slightly charred, dish up and chow down!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Mains: Carrot &amp; Sesame Burgers<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Ingredients:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>750g carrots, peeled &amp; grated<\/li>\n<li>410g cooked <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Earth-Products-Organic-Chickpeas-p-5085.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">chickpeas<\/a>, drained &amp; rinsed<\/li>\n<li>1 small\u00a0onion, roughly chopped<\/li>\n<li>2Tbsp <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Oh-Mega-Sesame-Tahini-p-4525.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tahini<\/a> plus 1tsp to serve<\/li>\n<li>1tsp <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Kalyan-Cumin-Powder-p-3915.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ground cumin<\/a><\/li>\n<li>1\u00a0egg (or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Orgran-No-Egg-Egg-Replacer-p-2115.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">egg substitute<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>3Tbsp\u00a0olive oil<\/li>\n<li>100g wholemeal breadcrumbs<\/li>\n<li>Zest of 1\u00a0lemon plus 1tsp juice<\/li>\n<li>150ml pot natural yoghurt<\/li>\n<li>6 wholewheat buns<\/li>\n<li>2Tbsp <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Crede-Organic-Sesame-Oil-p-1593.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sesame oil<\/a><\/li>\n<li>3Tbsp <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/By-Nature-Organic-Sesame-Seeds-p-5686.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sesame seeds<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Rocket\u00a0, sliced red onion &amp; sliced avocado to garnish<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Method:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Process a third of the grated carrot along with the chickpeas, onion, 2Tbsp tahini, cumin &amp; egg.<\/li>\n<li>Blend into a thick paste, then scrape into a large bowl.<\/li>\n<li>Heat 1Tbsp oil in a large frying pan, tip in the remaining carrot &amp; cook for 8-10 mins, stirring until the carrot softened.<\/li>\n<li>Add the cooked carrot to the paste, along with the breadcrumbs, lemon zest &amp; sesame seeds. Add seasoning, then mix together well with your hands.<\/li>\n<li>Divide the mixture into 6 burger patties, using wet hands. Cover &amp; chill until ready to braai.<\/li>\n<li>Mix the yoghurt with the sesame oil, 1tsp tahini &amp; lemon juice, then chill.<\/li>\n<li>Braai the burgers for 5 min on each side, until golden &amp; crisp.<\/li>\n<li>Spread the lemon-sesame yoghurt over each bun, then top with the avo, onion and rocket. Yum!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And of course, you can use your braai to make some delicious desserts as well! This healthy spiced apple recipe has a real &#8220;Christmassy&#8221; taste making it perfect for the festive season.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Dessert: Spiced Cooked Apples<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Ingredients:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>4 small apples<\/li>\n<li>3Tbsp <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/By-Nature-Walnuts-p-3171.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">walnuts<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/By-Nature-Raw-Organic-Pecan-Nuts-p-5743.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pecans<\/a>, chopped<\/li>\n<li>2Tbsp mixed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/By-Nature-Organic-Raisins-p-3655.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">raisins<\/a> &amp; dried <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/By-Nature-Dried-Cranberries-p-5683.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cranberries<\/a>, chopped<\/li>\n<li>\u00bc cup <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Earth-Products-Organic-Light-Brown-Sugar-p-5449.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">brown sugar<\/a><\/li>\n<li>1Tbsp butter or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Crede-Organic-Virgin-Coconut-Oil-p-540.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">coconut oil<\/a>, melted<\/li>\n<li>\u00bctsp <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Good-Life-Organic-Ground-Cinnamon-p-890.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ground cinnamon<\/a><\/li>\n<li>\u00bctsp <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Kalyan-Organic-Ground-Nutmeg-p-4143.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ground nutmeg<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Pinch of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Good-Life-Organic-Clove-Powder-p-5669.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ground cloves<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Method:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Combine the nuts, fruit, sugar, butter\/ oil &amp; spices.<\/li>\n<li>Core the apples &amp; stuff them with the fruit, nut &amp; spice mix.<\/li>\n<li>Wrap each apple in a double layer of tinfoil &amp; braai for 20-25 minutes, turning regularly.<\/li>\n<li>Let the apples cool a little bit, then serve &amp; enjoy!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nothing beats the sizzle of a summertime braai in South Africa!
