A simple step like adding your favourite mixed fruits and nuts can transform a \u201cplain Jane\u201d loaf into something really special. Plus it adds a wealth of vitamins, minerals and even protein, making your bread more nutritionally balanced.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve got two delicious fruity, nutty bread recipes to share with you \u2013 whether you prefer the convenience of a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Food-Fusion-Breadmaker-with-Fruit-Nut-Dispenser-p-3498.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bread-maker<\/a>, or want to try your hand at a homemade artisan loaf. Handmade Recipe for Date &amp; Cherry Nut Loaf<\/h2>\n<p>This bread has got a little bit of everything \u2013 dates for sweetness, cherries for fruity tang and protein-packed nuts for crunch. \u00a0A great hands-on recipe for bakers without bread-makers.<\/p>\n<h3><em>Ingredients:<\/em><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>4 cups unbleached\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Eureka-Unbleached-Stone-Ground-White-Bread-Flour-p-5124.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bread flour<\/a> (keep a little extra aside for dusting)<\/li>\n<li>2 \u00bctsp salt<\/li>\n<li>\u00betsp active dry yeast<\/li>\n<li>1\u00bd cups chopped <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/By-Nature-Walnuts-p-3171.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">walnuts<\/a><\/li>\n<li>1\u00bd cups blanched hazelnuts or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/By-Nature-Organic-Almonds-p-3085.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">almonds<\/a><\/li>\n<li>1\u00bd cups <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/By-Nature-Sour-Cherries-p-4953.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dried cherries<\/a><\/li>\n<li>1\u00bd cups pitted &amp; sliced <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/By-Nature-Organic-Pitted-Dried-Dates-p-3089.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dates<\/a><\/li>\n<li>2 cups cool water (55-65\u00b0F)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><em>Method:<\/em><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Mix the flour, salt &amp; yeast in a bowl, using a wooden spoon or rubber spatula.<\/li>\n<li>Add the nuts &amp; fruit; mix well.<\/li>\n<li>Add the water &amp; mix until the mixture is wet &amp; sticky.<\/li>\n<li>Cover the bowl with plastic wrap &amp; let sit at room temperature for approx. 12-14 hours, until the dough has doubled in size.<\/li>\n<li>Scrape the dough onto a well-floured work surface; lift the edges of the dough towards the centre &amp; tuck them in until the dough has a rounded shape.<\/li>\n<li>Place the dough seam-side down on a parchment-lined, generously dusted baking sheet. Dust the top with flour if needed.<\/li>\n<li>Gently cover the dough with another piece of parchment &amp; a clean tea towel. Place in a warm spot for 1-2 hours, until the dough doubles in size again.<\/li>\n<li>While your dough rises, pre-heat oven to 475\u00b0F. Heat a heavy pot with lid on the lower-third rack.<\/li>\n<li>Remove pre-heated pot from the oven; uncover the dough, remove from parchment &amp; dust the underside. Tip your dough into the pot, seam-side up.<\/li>\n<li>Cover the pot &amp; bake your loaf for 30min.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the lid &amp; bake for 15-30min more, until the loaf is golden-brown.<\/li>\n<li>Gently lift the bread out of the pot with a heat-proof spatula; place on a rack to cool.<\/li>\n<li>Enjoy with your favourite free-range organic cheeses or butter.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>2. Bread Machine Recipe for Glazed Fruit Loaf<\/h2>\n<p>Spicy, fruity and oh-so-good\u2026 this luscious loaf is a breeze to make with the help of your trusty bread machine.<\/p>\n<h3><em>For the Bread:<\/em><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>270ml water<\/li>\n<li>6tsp butter<\/li>\n<li>1\u00bdtsp salt<\/li>\n<li>6tsp brown sugar<\/li>\n<li>450g (3 cups) stone ground\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Eureka-Unbleached-Stone-Ground-White-Bread-Flour-p-5124.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">white bread flour<\/a><\/li>\n<li>6tsp powdered milk (or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Natures-Choice-Soy-Milk-Powder-p-4272.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">milk substitute<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>3tsp ground <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Good-Life-Organic-Five-Sugar-Spice-p-1185.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mixed spice<\/a><\/li>\n<li>2tsp yeast<\/li>\n<li>\u00bd cup mixed dried fruit (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/By-Nature-Organic-Raisins-p-3655.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">raisins<\/a>, sultanas, currants, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/By-Nature-Sour-Cherries-p-4953.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cherries<\/a> \u2013 go wild!)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Pssstt\u2026 you can add a few of your favourite nuts too!<\/p>\n<h3><em>For the Glaze:<\/em><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>3tbsp water<\/li>\n<li>6tsp sugar<\/li>\n<li>3tsp agar-agar<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><em>Method:<\/em><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Place all ingredients except the fruit into your <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Mellerware-Ma-Baker-Pro-Bread-Maker-p-4855.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bread maker<\/a>, in the order recommended by your manufacturer.<\/li>\n<li>Place the fruit in the special fruit &amp; nut dispenser.<\/li>\n<li>While the loaf bakes, combine the glaze ingredients in a small saucepan &amp; cook over a heat until the sugar and agar have dissolved.<\/li>\n<li>At 15min into the baking cycle, pause the bread maker &amp; brush the glaze over the loaf.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With a stash of your favourite nutrient-packed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Dried-Fruit-Nuts-p-1-c-182.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dried fruits and nuts<\/a> in the pantry, you\u2019ll find there\u2019s no way bread will ever be considered boring again!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bread might be an everyday staple for many of us, but that doesn\u2019t mean it can\u2019t be an experimental, exciting and adventurous dish.
