If you want to trim on the calories even more half the base and crumble ingredients and only top the apples with a crumble with no base.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-29145\" src=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Apple-pie_3.jpg\" alt=\"Apple crumble pie_3\" width=\"1000\" height=\"1500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Apple-pie_3.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Apple-pie_3-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Apple-pie_3-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Apple-pie_3-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Apple-pie_3-610x915.jpg 610w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>VEGAN APPLE CRUMBLE PIE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>INGREDIENTS: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Crumble &amp; base <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2 \u00bd cups\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/health-connection-gluten-free-flour-mix\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gluten-free cake flour<\/a> (sub brown rice flour)<\/li>\n<li>4 Tbsps <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/earth-products-coconut-desiccated\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">desiccated coconut<\/a><\/li>\n<li>1\/3 cup <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/lemcke-organic-virgin-coconut-oil\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">coconut oil<\/a><\/li>\n<li>2 flax eggs (4tbsps <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/the-red-basket-food-co-golden-flax-seed-flour\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">flax seed flour<\/a> &amp; \u00bc water)<\/li>\n<li>1 cup <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/truefoods-organic-coconut-blossom-sugar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">coconut blossom sugar<\/a><\/li>\n<li>2 Tbsps <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/vanilla-man-vanilla-extract-50ml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vanilla extract<\/a><\/li>\n<li>2 tsp&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/kalyan-organic-ground-cinnamon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cinnamon<\/a><\/li>\n<li>\u00bc tsp <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/kalyan-organic-ground-nutmeg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">nutmeg<\/a><\/li>\n<li>\u00bd tsp <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/good-life-organic-spice-blend-madras-superior\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mixed spice<\/a><\/li>\n<li>2 tsp&#8217;s baking powder<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/khoisan-salt-fine-sea-salt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">salt<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Filling <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>6-8 apples, peeled, cored &amp; chopped (granny smith)<\/li>\n<li>1 tbsp <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/kalyan-organic-ground-cinnamon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cinnamon<\/a><\/li>\n<li>1 tsp ground cardamom<\/li>\n<li>1 tbsp <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/biona-organic-agave-syrup-light\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">agave<\/a>\/<a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/chaloner-maple-syrup-grade-a-dark-amber\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">maple syrup<\/a>\/ <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/raw-golden-honey-forest-honey-1kg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">local raw honey<\/a><\/li>\n<li>5-6 tbsps water<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>METHOD: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Crumble &amp; base<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Preheat the oven to 180 degrees delcius<\/li>\n<li>In a large bowl mix oil, sugar, vanilla extract and spices together.<\/li>\n<li>Prepare the flax eggs by mixing the flax seed flour with water in a small bowl. Leave to thicken for 5minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Add all the dry ingredients and combine. Best to use your hands.<\/li>\n<li>Press half of the dough into a sprayed tart tin and put in the oven for 15 minutes or until dry.<\/li>\n<li>Roll the other half of the dough into a ball and wrap in cling wrap or put in a container with a lit in the freezer while the base is baking.<\/li>\n<li>Start with the filling.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Filling<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>In a saucepan, heat up the apple pieces together with everything else and a little bit of hot water so the apples don\u2019t stick or burn to the surface. Cook until soft.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>ASSEMBLE:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>After the base has baked brush the surface with a little syrup or apricot jam.<\/li>\n<li>Put the filling onto the base.
