In fact, this microscopic zoo in your gut is the first-line defense of your immune system.&nbsp;<\/em><em>These bacteria help you digest your food, produce vitamins, absorb minerals, eliminate toxins and, keep pathogenic bacteria under control so you stay protected from infection &#8211; they even help to prevent autoimmune diseases like asthma, allergies, and diabetes.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>By adding good bacteria into you and your little one\u2019s diet by way of fermented foods, you\u2019ll enable the immune system to crush opportunistic invaders and disease-triggering inflammation, long before they can gain the upper hand.&nbsp;<\/em><em>While Mila\u2019s cousins will happy eat my fermented sauerkraut straight out of the jar, Mila is not so keen (because, you know, she does not eat vegetables that still look like vegetables!) <strong>So, to get the good bacteria into her, I fermented one of her favourite fruits instead.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/em><em>The added benefit of blueberries is that they <\/em><em>are an exceptionally phytonutrient-dense fruit and a very good source of vitamin C.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>These Bubbling Berries are delicious eaten on their own but make a great addition to a smoothie too. They are a great finger food and are easily \u2018gummed\u2019 by your toothless little one! Alternatively, they can be added to any pur\u00e9e you may be making for your little one.<\/em><em>&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>MAKES: 1 x 375ml jar<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>INGREDIENTS:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>2 cups organic blueberries<\/li>\n<li>2 Tbs <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/simply-bee-raw-honey\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">raw honey<\/a> (or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/chaloner-maple-syrup-grade-a-organic-dark-delicious\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">organic maple syrup<\/a> if your little one is younger than a year old for added sweetness)<\/li>\n<li>2 Tbs liquid whey from strained yoghurt or kefir <em>(or contents of 2 probiotic capsules)&nbsp;<\/em><\/li>\n<li>\u00bc tsp <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/himalayan-fine-salt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Himalayan<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/oryx-desert-salt-coarse-bag\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Oryx<\/a> salt<\/li>\n<li>2 cups filtered water<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>METHOD:<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Wash the berries well and place in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/bodum-presso-1l-storage-jar-white\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">1 litre glass jar<\/a>.
