Once you figure out the health benefits of giving up meat and dairy, and\u00a0that plant-based doesn&#8217;t mean lacking\u00a0flavour,\u00a0well \u2013 your taste buds are sure to follow! Even halving\u00a0your\u00a0meat \u00a0consumption is something you should\u00a0consider (have you heard of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.meatfreemondays.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meat Free Mondays<\/a>?).<\/p>\n<p>A well-stocked plant-based pantry is great inspiration for starting a meat-free lifestyle. We&#8217;ve put together a simple guide to the basics you could dip into to create a nutrient-packed meal for any occasion, without compromising on depth of flavour.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\"><b>LEGUMES<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Legumes are a sturdy staple for vegans when it comes to getting in plant protein. They\u2019re rich in fibre too, which is great for your gut and keeps you full for longer. Legumes needn\u2019t only be eaten cooked, you can sprout many of them too, making them even more nutritious. Quinoa in particular is really high in protein. They make a great base for\u00a0meals and come in convenient forms such as pasta or porridge. Create smoothies, sauces and pestos with a creamy touch using nut and seed butters. You need these fats to help you absorb important fat-soluble nutrients and build important organs such as your brain and skin. Berries and sun-dried tomatoes are a great\u00a0source of vitamin C and antioxidants, and their tart flavours mix well with nuts, salads and smoothies. Dried mushrooms, tomatoes, olives and onions add\u00a0depth of flavour to your cooking too. These are the secret to making nut cheeses and yoghurt that taste authentic with that tangy flavour of real cheese and dairy \u2013 that\u2019s about as umami as you can get.<\/p>\n<p>Choose what spices will go with the cuisine you are cooking, for instance if you want a bobotie-like flavour, choose bobotie spices and ingredients sans the meat. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/masterstock-cape-seaweed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Seaweed<\/a> is another great resource that will up the nutritional content of your food while adding\u00a0loads of minerals and nutrients.
