It&#8217;s actually Syria&#8217;s national dish, but we&#8217;ve put a twist on it by making it with Quinoa instead of the usual Bulgar Wheat. Quinoa (pronounced keen-wa) is an ancient grain cultivated by the Incas for centuries. It is a supergrain because it is a complete protein.  Unlike other grains, quinoa has all eight amino acids and is packed with B vitamins as well as magnesium, iron, zinc, potassium and calcium.  It is also gluten free so can be used by people with celiac disease. Tabbouleh can be served as a starter or a dip with naan and pita bread or as an accompaniment to grilled fish or lamb chops.<\/div>\n<p><span class=\"ArticleText\"><strong>You Need:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"TipList3\">\n<li>1 cup of <a class=\"ActionLinkBlue\" href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Health-Connection-Quinoa-p-573.html\" target=\"_blank\">quinoa<\/a><\/li>\n<li>2\u00bd cups cold water<\/li>\n<li>2 medium diced tomatoes<\/li>\n<li>Half a  peeled and diced cucumber<\/li>\n<li>4 to 6 finely chopped spring onions<\/li>\n<li>A handful of chopped mint<\/li>\n<li>A small handful of chopped coriander (dhanya) and flatleaf parsley<\/li>\n<li>2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice<\/li>\n<li>90 ml of <a class=\"ActionLinkBlue\" href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Crede-Organic-Olive-Oil-p-541.html\" target=\"_blank\">organic olive oil<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a class=\"ActionLinkBlue\" href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Himalayan-Course-Salt-Grinder-p-598.html\" target=\"_blank\">Salt<\/a> and <a class=\"ActionLinkBlue\" href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/2010\/08\/try-a-new-organic-recpie\/Organic-Black-Pepper-p-592.html\" target=\"_blank\">black pepper<\/a> to taste<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Instructions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"TipList3\">\n<li>Rinse 1 cup of quinoa and place in a pot. Use a large pot as quinoa quadruples in size<\/li>\n<li>Add 2\u00bd cups cold water<\/li>\n<li>Bring to the boil, cover and simmer over low heat for fifteen minutes, drain if necessary<\/li>\n<li>Add diced tomatoes, diced cucumber, chopped spring onions, chopped mint, chopped coriander and flatleaf parsley<\/li>\n<li>Make a lemon dressing using 2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice and 90 ml of organic olive oil. Whisk this together with freshly ground salt and pepper to taste<\/li>\n<li>Add the dressing to the quinoa salad whilst the grains are still warm so that the tastes are all absorbed<\/li>\n<li>Serve warm or chilled with naan or pita bread, or as an accompaniment to grilled fish or lamb chops<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float: right; margin: 10px 10px 1px 10px;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/skin1\/newsletter\/2008\/July\/images\/pastry.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"252\" height=\"191\" \/><\/p>\n<div style=\"border: 2px dashed #148405; padding: 7px 7px 5px 7px;\">\n<div style=\"font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; padding-bottom: 7px;\">Mushroom, Nut &amp; Date Jalousie (pastry)<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: 7px; padding-bottom: 5px; font-size: 12px;\">Jalousie is a flat square pastry with a plain rectangular base, a filling and a top layer of pasty cut to produce a set of parallel slats. This dish is a good alternative to a Sunday roast!<\/div>\n<p><span class=\"ArticleText\"><strong>You Need:<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"TipList3\">\n<li>75g <a class=\"ActionLinkBlue\" href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Health-Connection-Green-Lentils-p-579.html\" target=\"_blank\">rinsed green lentils<\/a><\/li>\n<li>15 ml <a class=\"ActionLinkBlue\" href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Crede-Organic-Olive-Oil-p-541.html\" target=\"_blank\">organic olive oil<\/a><\/li>\n<li>2 large sliced leeks<\/li>\n<li>2 chopped garlic cloves<\/li>\n<li>200g finely chopped brown mushrooms<\/li>\n<li>10 ml <a class=\"ActionLinkBlue\" href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Blue-Sky-Organics-Herb-Salt-Rub-p-605.html\" target=\"_blank\">dried mixed herbs<\/a><\/li>\n<li>75g chopped <a class=\"ActionLinkBlue\" href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Health-Connection-Peacon-Nuts-p-581.html\" target=\"_blank\">pecan nuts<\/a><\/li>\n<li>15 ml pinenuts<\/li>\n<li>75g soaked <a class=\"ActionLinkBlue\" href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\/Health-Connection-Pitted-Dates-p-571.html\" target=\"_blank\">dates<\/a><\/li>\n<li>25g fresh breadcrumbs<\/li>\n<li>2 beaten eggs<\/li>\n<li>Puff pastry<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Instructions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"TipList3\">\n<li>Put lentils in a saucepan of veg stock, bring to the boil then simmer, partly covered, for 20 minutes (lentils should be tender)<\/li>\n<li>Heat the oil and soften the leeks and garlic, add mushrooms and herbs and cook for about 5 minutes<\/li>\n<li>Transfer mix to a bowl using a slotted spoon<\/li>\n<li>Stir in the nuts, dates, breadcrumbs and lentils<\/li>\n<li>Add 2 thirds of beaten egg mix, stir, season well and let cool<\/li>\n<li>Roll out 2 equal sized rectangles of pastry<\/li>\n<li>Fold one in half lengthways and make a series of cuts across the fold, so that when opened out they are slits, leaving a border around the edge of the rectangle<\/li>\n<li>Spoon the mix over the pastry base, leaving a border of similar size to the slatted topping border<\/li>\n<li>Brush the border with water and lay the slatted pastry on top of the filling<\/li>\n<li>Trim the edges and crimp border to secure pastry<\/li>\n<li>Brush the pastry with the remaining egg and bake at 220\u00b0C for 25-30 minutes<\/li>\n<li>Serve as is or with veg gravy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"font-size: 11px; padding-top: 20px;\" colspan=\"2\" align=\"center\" valign=\"top\"><a class=\"shoplink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.faithful-to-nature.co.za\">Visit our natural &amp; organic online shop<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s a fact: organic food is more nutritious and it tastes better!
