Many commercial flea and tick treatments are toxic to us and our pets and have killed pets in some cases. Food grade diatomaceous earth is OMRI (Organic Material Review Institute) listed, does not poison pets, and simply dehydrates fleas and ticks that come in contact with it within 72 hours.

How to use Diatomaceous Earth

For Deworming:
Kittens - 1/2 teaspoon
Cats - 1 teaspoon
Puppies - 1/2 to 1 teaspoon
Dogs under 15kg - 1 teaspoon
Dogs over 15kg - 1 tablespoon

Simply mix in the pet's food. Use once daily for 30 days and from then as needed. Internal feeding of food grade diatomaceous earth helps eliminate most internal worms, including roundworms, pin worms, tapeworms, etc. It's also excellent when fed daily to keep down fly loads, since food grade diatomaceous earth is eliminated from the body, exactly the way it went in, it helps reduce the manure odour and kills flies that come into contact with it.

For Fleas:
Apply once a week for a month and then apply as needed. Avoid contact with pet's eyes. We recommend using gloves during application. Lightly work the material into the hair of the animal. Use brush or comb to work the material down to the skin. Pay strict attention to places where the animal cannot reach, such as the scalp. Dust the ears of the animal with care. Dust the animal's bedding and areas where the animal sleeps, as well as cracks and crevices adjacent to them. Repeat once a month or as necessary. Individual ticks observed on the animal should be dusted thoroughly. DE will kill adult fleas and ticks within 72 hours of them coming in contact with the powder.

To make flea and tick treatment successful, it is imperative that everything is treated all at the same time, the dog, cat, or other pet; the yard; the bedding; the household, if the animal is an indoor pet. If you are diligent in treatment with the diatomaceous earth you can expect a flea and/or tick infestation to be eliminated within 3 weeks.

The reason everything must be treated at once is because ONLY 5 to 15% of an infestation that you see are the adult fleas and ticks. The remaining 85 to 95% of the fleas and ticks are the flea larvae and tick eggs that have not yet develpoed. Thus, in order to completely eliminate a flea/tick infestation, everything and every affected pet must be treated at the same time for lasting effectiveness.

Of course, bathing your pet with a good natural shampoo and combing any fleas out of your pet's fur is beneficial as well.

What is Diatomeaceous Earth?
Diatomeaceous Earth is composed of ground diatoms, microscopic fossils which are mined from deposits of water. Diatoms are the tiny single-celled plants and plankton that live in the sea by the billions, and provide the foundation of the food-chain for all marine life. As diatoms die, their exoskeletons drift to the bottom, building up large deposits of diatomaceous earth over time. Geologic changes gradually shift these sea deposits to dry land, making them available for mining.
