House of Mir Natural Alcohol Based Perfumes - Dryad
Receive a free sample of the new perfume, Aurora, with every sale of a full size perfume.
The gourmand perfume is called Aurora. It is especially designed for chocolate lovers. Imagine a deep rich dark chocolate flavoured with honey, vanilla, hazelnut and rose.
A Dryad is specifically a nymph of an oak tree, though the term has come to be used for all tree nymphs in general. In Dryad I wanted to capture the spirit of woods; a warm, earthy and woody fragrance. It opens with the fresh green notes of Hyssop, Clary Sage, Angelica and a hint of Aniseed, which mellows into a warm heart of Honeybush tea, Cedar and Oak, resting on a beautiful base of musky amber and the rare sacred Agarwood.
Did You Know?
Often people avoid alcohol based perfumes having only encountered alcohols in synthetic perfumes. Many synthetic perfumes use not only synthetic ingredients but also Synthetic Ethyl Alcohol from petrochemical sources, or use denatured alcohol. In natural perfumery we do not use either synthetic alcohol or denatured alcohol since the denaturing chemical added can be very harmful. Denatured alcohol is ethanol which has been rendered toxic or otherwise undrinkable, and in some cases dyed. Different additives are used to make it both unpalatable and/or poisonous in such a way that is hard to rectify through distillation or other simple processes. There are literally hundreds of recipes for denaturing ethanol. People, who experience an allergic reaction to alcohol, often are allergic to the synthetic alcohol or the additives in denatured alcohol rather than pure natural alcohol.
Natural alcohol is commonly referred to as Grain Alcohol because almost all commercial alcohol produced in North America is derived from grain (corn). Not all naturally derived Ethanol however, comes from grain (corn). Ethanol can be naturally produced (fermented) from any carbohydrate source. Some of the other common sources are wheat, cane, beet and other fruits such as grape and apple.
Alcohol perfumes have a different character to oil based perfumes. Oil based perfumes are normally richer, and warmer in tone, whereas alcohol based perfumes are lighter in tone. One needs for example more top notes in an oil base and more base notes in an alcohol blend. Alcohol as a medium allows a lot more scope for creative blending, alcohol however needs more time to mature into its fullness, just like wine.
